Zenit Saint Petersburg matchday, fan first

Saint Petersburg's biggest club play at one of Europe's largest stadiums — Gazprom Arena on Krestovsky Island, 67,800 seats, retractable roof and a pitch that rolls out onto the riverbank. You need a Fan ID (Карта болельщика) to buy tickets for RPL matches; grab it on Gosuslugi before you travel. Krestovsky Island has good post-match options including Karl & Friedrich's biergarten brewery and Russkaya Rybalka's catch-your-own-fish river restaurant; head across to central Saint Petersburg for wider choice, the Nevsky Prospekt nightlife strip and the tourist-quarter hotels. Zenit won the 2025-26 RPL title — their 12th overall and their 7th in 8 seasons under Sergei Semak.

Club facts and honours

Founded 25 May 1925, Zenit won their only Soviet championship in 1984 under Pavel Sadyrin, then emerged as Russia's dominant force from 2007 onwards. In 2008 they won the UEFA Cup, beating Glasgow Rangers 2-0 in the final and then defeating Manchester United 2-1 in the UEFA Super Cup — the first Russian club to win that trophy. Gazprom became the controlling shareholder in December 2005. Sergei Semak's appointment in 2018 launched a run of six successive RPL titles.

Tickets and stadium map

Gazprom Arena sits on the western tip of Krestovsky Island, ~8km northwest of Palace Square. The stadium opened in 2017 and hosted six matches at the 2018 FIFA World Cup. One of the largest stadiums in Europe, it holds 67,800 (UEFA Category 4). The retractable roof — a 286-metre diameter disc on 8 pillars, closing in ~15 minutes — and the sliding pitch are the headline engineering features: the 8,400-tonne natural-grass pitch rolls out on air-cushion motors to rest beside the Malaya Neva for sunlight exposure, a unique design globally at the time of construction. Cost exceeded $1 billion.

A Fan ID (Карта болельщика) is required to buy tickets for all RPL and Russian Cup matches. This is a national government-issued electronic document tied to your identity via Gosuslugi (the Russian state-services portal). You register online, visit an MFC (multifunctional centre) with your passport for verification, then your Fan ID appears in your Gosuslugi account. A separate Fan ID is needed for each attendee, including children under 14. At the stadium you scan a QR code linked to your Fan ID — you do not need to present the physical card. Fan ID kiosks also operate outside the stadium on matchdays (11:00 to end of first half). Foreign visitors should check the current requirements for their nationality before booking. Buy via the official Zenit ticket portal tickets.fc-zenit.ru. Ticket prices (from recent fixtures) run from ~300 roubles in upper corners to ~2,300 roubles for central upper tier to ~700-1,700 roubles in the lower tier. All purchases require a Fan ID number. Do not rely on resale markets; use official channels.

The city sees itself as the cultural capital of Russia, and Zenit as its sole major representative in football. Even the composer Dmitry Shostakovich was a known Zenit supporter. The colour identity is distinct from every Moscow club and that matters deeply to the support.
