FC Zürich matchday, fan first

This page covers the full fan journey: who FC Zürich are and what they have won, how to get tickets through the official portal, Letzigrund logistics (tram 2 from Paradeplatz, 25,000-seat shared ground), and where to eat and drink before and after a match. Home fans have options along Badenerstrasse on the doorstep of the stadium; anyone staying overnight or looking for a real night out has better choice in Zürich-West (Kreis 5), Langstrasse, or the old town. Hotels cluster around Altstetten for stadium convenience or city-centre for restaurants and transport.

Club facts and honours

FC Zürich was founded on 1 August 1896 by members of the city clubs FC Turicum and FC Excelsior. Their first game — a 3–3 draw with St. Gallen on 30 August 1896 at Hardau — predated the Swiss league by years. Joan Gamper, who later co-founded FC Barcelona, was an early honorary member and captain. The club won their first Swiss championship in 1901–02. Their peak era came under the influence of Köbi Kuhn, who spent 16 years as a player and captained six title wins in the 1960s and 1970s. FCZ are the only Swiss club to have reached the European Cup semi-finals more than once: 1963–64 (beaten by Real Madrid) and 1976–77 (beaten by Liverpool). Their most recent league title came in 2021–22. The stadium is shared with city rivals Grasshopper Club Zürich and also hosts Weltklasse Zürich, one of the Diamond League's marquee athletics meets.
