Corinthians matchday, fan first

This page covers the full fan journey for Corinthians at Neo Química Arena in Itaquera — 19 km east of São Paulo city centre. Start with who Corinthians are (7 Brasileirão titles, 2012 Copa Libertadores, 2012 Club World Cup winners over Chelsea), then how tickets work through the Fiel Torcedor membership system, how to get there on metro Line 3 and CPTM Line 11 to Corinthians–Itaquera station, and where to eat near the stadium or in Tatuapé before kick-off. Honest east-side geography: food options close to the ground are practical rather than diverse — Avenida Paulista and Vila Madalena give more choice for nights out and hotel stays.

Club facts and honours

Corinthians were founded on 1 September 1910 by five workers — painters, a shoemaker, a driver and a labourer — in São Paulo's Bom Retiro neighbourhood. They named the club after the English Corinthian F.C., who had toured Brazil to great admiration. The club became identified with São Paulo's working classes and is now among Brazil's most-supported teams. The Democracia Corinthiana movement in the early 1980s — led by midfielder Sócrates — saw players vote democratically on club decisions during Brazil's military dictatorship, a rare political experiment in professional football.

Tickets are sold through the official Corinthians site. Fiel Torcedor members get phased pre-sale access. No gate sales are confirmed — buying online in advance is strongly recommended. Democracia Corinthiana — football's political experiment

In the early 1980s, during Brazil's military dictatorship, Corinthians let players and staff vote on everything — meal times, travel, squad selection. Sócrates led it. They wore 'Vote on 15th' on their shirts in 1982 to promote Brazil's first multiparty elections since 1964. Corinthians won back-to-back São Paulo state titles in 1982 and 1983.
